BOTOX® Cosmetic

In addition to providing the highest quality eye care, we at the Shah Eye Center are now happy to be offering BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment to our Mission and McAllen, Texas area patients. This revolutionary new treatment can greatly reduce the appearance of "frown lines" that can form between your brows.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?

BOTOX ® Cosmetic is a refined protein derived from the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria. This protein causes tightened muscles to relax. BOTOX® Cosmetic harnesses this property of the protein to relax the tightened muscles that cause frown lines to appear on your face. Physicians have also found numerous other uses for BOTOX®. In addition to relieving lines between your brows, BOTOX® injections have even been found to eliminate under-arm sweating.

How is BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment performed?

To administer BOTOX® Cosmetic, Mission, Texas doctor Pankaj G. Shah injects several very small amounts of the product into the desired area. Dr. Shah determines where to make the injections by examining how well you can move the different muscles in your brow. There is no recovery time, and you'll likely notice a reduction in frown lines within the first few days after your treatment.

How long does a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment last?

The rejuvenating effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic last up to four mouths, and may be repeated as many times as you like. Because of the convenient location of Shah Eye Center, BOTOX® Cosmetic patients in Mission, McAllen, Edinburg, and surrounding Texas communities enjoy an easy drive to Dr. Shah's office.

Cataract Treatment

A cataract is a clouding of your eye's lens, the part of the eye that focuses light on the retina. The lens is made primarily of protein and water. As you age, the protein tends to mass together, causing cloudiness in your vision. Cataracts may also develop as the lens discolors over time, giving your vision a brownish tint.

While mild cases of cataracts can be treated simply by changing the prescription of glasses or contacts, more advanced cataracts often require surgical treatment. Cataracts can be corrected by surgically removing the affected lens and replacing it with an artificial one. Dr. Shah performs state-of-the-art cataract surgery with no shots and no stitches - often requiring less than 10 minutes of operating time.

Glaucoma Treatment

If you have blind spots in your field of vision, you may be experiencing the early signs of glaucoma. If glaucoma is not caught early in its development through regular eye care exams, the condition can cause total blindness. Sadly, glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States. Risk factors include family history of glaucoma, myopia, diabetes, and advanced age (over 40).

The inside of the eye is nourished by a fluid known as the aqueous humor, and when the drainage system for this fluid malfunctions, pressure can build up due to an excess of fluid inside the eye. This pressure may cause damage to the optic nerve, which is responsible for carrying messages from the eye to the brain.

The best way to prevent blindness caused by glaucoma is by having regular eye care exams with a trained ophthalmologist, such as Dr Shah in Mission, Texas. Damage caused by glaucoma cannot be reversed; however, treatments ranging from medicated eye drops to surgical options can halt the progress of the disease.

If you would like to be evaluated for glaucoma, or simply wish to learn more about eye care or BOTOX® Cosmetic, contact the Shah Eye Center today. Mission and McAllen, Texas area patients have trusted Dr. Shah for more than a decade; find out why during your free consultation.
